Mr. Su Bai's fist was just about to strike the lower jaw of the Buddha statue when he abruptly halted upon hearing Jie Bing's warning. The force of the punch rebounded on himself, causing his figure to stagger several steps back, and a thin thread of blood trickled from the corner of his mouth.
Jie Bing's figure appeared above the Buddha, pressing down with both hands as his left eye socket emitted only a gray glow instead of an iris.
"If you move again, I will sever the connection between you and this Buddha, permanently trapping you here," Jie Bing warned.
The Buddha, which had been restless moments ago, fell silent now, seemingly returning to the meditative pose it had held at the beginning. However, the Buddha lying in the river now was utterly different from the Buddha sitting serenely at Leshan for over a millennium. The recent turmoil had yet to dissipate.
