**************************************************************
It seemed like the first time in a long time we were able to make it through a full day at school without any interruptions.
Perhaps now that the first month was over, Emily and Garret had far less time to be harassing us. I sat outside with Ivy and Violet, the three of us wearing our Supernova uniforms and eating lunch in a tranquil chatter.
"You know, I was thinking." Ivy spoke up, tucking her brown-to-blonde hair behind her ear, her lashes batting. "When do you guys think we will get an assignment? Like, an official one?"
"That's a good point. "I hummed. "Probably not until the middle of the school year. Why?"
"We've been through so much already," Ivy sighed. "Can you imagine how much worse it will be when we have to go on actual missions?"
It was as if as soon as she said that, the beautiful day got dark and grim. Violet groaned after a long time of silent sulking.
"Don't even say that, Ivy! It isn't funny! I don't want my junior year of high school to be fighting crazies outside of school and inside!!"
"H-Hey!" Ivy winced, pouting. "I'm just asking! Question! It was just a question!"
"A-Ah…you two- stop yelling…" I was already feeling drained from hearing them bicker again. This morning was already weary enough. Ivy had forgotten her cheer clothes at mine, and so I had to wake up early to pack her things. As I was doing that…
I heard sounds coming from Vikky's room. She had already been staying with me for a month, however…that didn't mean that things were solved.
"You seem to be more tired than usual , Sara," Violets observant-when-she-wants-to-be brown eyes landed on me. "You good?"
I pursed my lips into a frown. "Unfortunately, I worry that Vikky isn't doing as good as I thought she would be at mine."
"W-What?!" Violet—who had an extreme soft spot for the girl— instantly shot out of her lunch seat. "Why do you say that?"
"Well," I sighed, sitting back in mine as I rubbed my temple. "She was up early this morning, I think. I dunno why but, there were cries coming from her room. As soon as I knocked they stopped but,"
"Do you think, she's hiding how she's feeling again?" Ivy questioned, worry written all over her face. "W-Well, well maybe we can,"
"No, we. We have to be a little smart." I quickly shook my head. "Knowing Vikky, she doesn't want to be overcrowded. And if we push too hard…she'll just hide things even more."
The table fell quiet.
"Damnit!" Violet cursed suddenly. "I just…I just wish there was more we could do for her."
"Do for who?"
A deep british voice spoke up. I looked up and spotted the familiar face of three boys, wearing matching Supernova Academy uniforms. Luke, Jacob, and Alex each passed a smile or wave or variant before joining us at our table.
It was nice that meeting for lunch time had become our little ritual. Jacob and Violet usually sat across from each other with Ivy next to Violet and Alex sitting next to her. Luke sat in between Jacob and I on the other side, holding a lunch tray in his hands.
"We were…talking about Vikky." I revealed quietly, sighing a little soon after. "She's been really recovering after things but, I-I just think she still seems so…sad?"
"Well… I'm sure it's difficult for her. "Luke nodded. As did the other boys. He brushed his dark brown hair back before continuing to talk. "And with those powers too. There's no telling what her family and Garret put her through."
I winced jut thinking back to it. Vikky's ability of power manipulation was certainly a rare and dangerous one, should it be used by the wrong person. Did her Garret know this and abuse her because of it? Or, was it her family that also played a part?
"Still." Violets brows furrowed. Her bright blue hair had been recently re-dukes. It cascaded down her shoulders but was tucked behind both ears, revealing silver piercings on each. " I just…I just wish that there was something I could do for her." She sighed, covering my face.
"You've done so much already, Violet." Ivy spoke up. "If it wasn't for you, we, we wouldn't had been able to put anything together about her situation."
"Plus, she has been living with Sarah and coming to school with you guys since that day." Alex agreed.
"But, that's just it." Violet started. She looked at the table of friends. "She doesn't want to hang out with us just yet, and she doesn't even come to the cafeterias for lunch. Not to mention, her and Adam's relationship is…well,"
The table went quiet. We all could make out what I was refering to. Unfortunately for him, since Adam's love confession, Vikky had pulled away even more and more from him. If was sad to see.
…Expecially when the 6 foot 3 inches (or 4 inches?) wolf boy was constantly at my house, trying to see her.
"What do you reckon we try doing?" Jacob spoke up. It was perhaps the first time all day that he had spoken. "It just doesn't seem she has a passion for anything since what's happened to her."
My eyebrows furrowed deeply at that word. Passion…what was that reminding me of?
Violet sighed, leaning her head into her hand. She picked up a fry and started stirring it in ketchup. "You're right, too. Maybe…maybe there's only so much we can do for someone who isn't really passionate in much aside from keeping her siblings safe."
"Passion…?" I thought aloud. Then, it hit me like a truck. I instantly gasped. "That's it!!"
Alex, Ivy, Violet, Jacob, and Adam turned to look at me, shocked.
I apologized briefly for my loud yell, but then, I looked at Violet, a smile growing on my face.
"I might know just the thing for Vikky to do in order to bring her out of her shell some more."
"Huh?" Violet, confused, filtered her head to the side. "What do you mean?"
I thought back to the files I had seen in Gracelyn's desk, and the application for Vikky to be her Assistant. "We should let her dance!"
