"So mind reading?" she asked intrigued.
"Something like that. Legilimency is more surface level. At least in it's standard form anyways. It can't forcibly drag out memories but it can let you read whatever someone is thinking at that exact moment. In flashes at least. Occlumency is more complex as it has two forms even in standard use. Defensive where you create a layer between your real thoughts and someone using legilimency. And internal where you use the art to organize your mind manually. By default minds just store things in whichever way it wants but to a skilled occlumens it's closer to a filling system that you can add to, look through and subtract from as needed." I explained.-
"And these magics are common?" she asked clearly very interested.
"Yes and no. It really depends on the circumstances of ones life. In pureblood families the knowledge is very much common though they rarely actually use it. In muggleborns however it's quite rare to even know it exists without someone saying so." I said seriously.
"I see. So that's what you meant when you said the purebloods hoarded knowledge." she said as we walked into the Leaky cauldron.
"Quite. They gather artifacts, knowledge and wealth like dragons from myth even if very rarely any of it beyond the wealth sees use. It's not just about them having it, but no one else having it either. It's one of the reasons magical kind have stagnated so much in places with long histories. The purebloods have too much hold over the government here and retaliate violently when they think their "noble" positions are being challenged." I explained as we walked up the stairs and to the room that was rented.
"Oh? You say that like theres a place with a short history." she pointed out.
"MACUSA, or the Magical Congress of the United States of America. The magical community of a country that has only been a country for around two hundred thirty years roughly. While it has purebloods as well it's government is a true merit based one where actual ability reigned supreme rather than pedigree. Because of this fact it is the only magical community still in tune with the muggle side of the world as many muggleborns there have positions of power." I said with a sigh.
"So the problem is that the purebloods are too entrenched into the power structure?" she asked and I nodded. "Could you change this with enough power?" she continued.
"Of course. That is the first step of my plan in fact. Though admittedly once you fully familiarize with this worlds magic you will also likely be able to simply use overwhelming power to force changes if you wished. If you do take that route prepare to face resistance from most of the pureblooded families. They won't hand over their power without a fight." I warned.
"I will remember that. Now then I believe you had more to teach me?" she said pulling out her wand preemptively.
I chuckled before jumping right back into the lesson.
(3rd person POV- Elsewhere)
It was an opulent manor by Pureblooded standards with more rooms than necessary, a healthy collection of tomes and artifacts to point at proudly and lavish furnishings.
The Malfoy manner.
It's master, Lucius Malfoy, was pacing in front of the fireplace with a dark expression.
"What is it that has you so vexed Lucius?" his wife Narcissa Malfoy nee Black asked him softly.
"Alexander Drake." Lucius spat the name out like it's very existence offended him.
"He's just another upstart Mudblood isn't he?" she asked as if the slur used was only natural.
"No. He's different. I too dismissed him at first but after this last encounter I can not. His gaze, it felt like HIS. Weighty and heavy as though I had no secrets from him. Like I was barely worth consideration." he said with a solemn tone.
"A mudblood dared look at you in such a manner?" she asked in surprise.
"That is the problem, it wasn't just me he looked at like that but EVERYTHING. Like this entire world was beneath him. Draco says he's powerful, the other heirs say the same. But after meeting him I can't help but question if the true depths of his power is deeper than we thought. That he might not be another upstart but a new lord. Like Grindelwald, Dumbledore or HIM." he confessed with a dark expression.
"Surely not? The boy can not be much older than Draco or that Potter child no?" she asked in disbelief.
"That was my thought as well but his presence felt the same as Dumbledore or HIM." he said with a tired sigh.
"Assuming this is true how do we proceed?" she asked gravely.
"I have already thought of this and have a plan. We will let one of the others test him. I asked him about those fruits the Greengrass heir spoke of and he didn't deny their existence. The price he asked for however is high. He covets the knowledge gathered in our libraries." he said seriously.
"He dares!?" she exclaimed in outrage.
"Indeed. His appetite is far too great. I rejected the price outright. But if he truly possesses such treasures...." he started and she finished.
"Then the others could serve to test him while we remained safe."
