Chapter 257 - Merchant chapter 242

I ended up renting out that room and another for two days before Ragkog sent me the bill for the renovation of the building I had just bought. It was an extra four hundred and twenty one galleons rounded up to get it all done to solid quality. The only problem was that the place was still barren. The most of the walls, floors and plumbing had been replaced while the basement was emptied out and the old furniture was discarded by the people renovating the place. It looked good, clean and orderly if lacking in accommodations.-

"I believe we require another shopping trip to obtain at the least preliminary furnishings. Beds and dressers. More can be gotten later." Salem said with a slight twitch at the corner of her mouth that wasn't quite a smile but edged that line.

With a sigh I brought her along to pick out things to move into the building. Crafting furniture was not exactly a popular job so there was only two shops that served as places you could find furniture in Diagon alley. Salem chose a king sized ebony bed and matching six drawer dresser. I picked out a simple oak twin sized bed and six drawer dresser. -

Other than that I purchased food for the coldbox and and cabinets along with plates, pots, pans, trays, forks, spoons and knives for the kitchen. That was it though. I made it clear that this was the most I would be buying for this building as in the end it WAS hers. How she wanted to furnish it beyond this was entirely up to her. The only parts of the building left empty were the store downstairs and the basement. -

I focused on teaching her as best as I could with the short time we had before the new school year was starting. It was only on the third day after moving into the building that we got some uninvited guests. I was in the middle of watching her brew a pot of Wiggenweld when I detected them. Not because they somehow slipped past my haki but because I treated them like background noise until they stopped in front of the door on the street. A group of five wizards in dark robes and covered faces that clearly weren't here with good intentions.-

"I believe we'll have to accept failure for the brew this time. We have company. Of the decidedly unfriendly sort." I said calmly.

"Hmph!" she huffed in annoyance but smoothly drew her wand.

"You remember which spells I told you to avoid at all costs?" I asked as i drew my spear.

"The killing curse, the imperius curse and the crutiatus curse." She said casually.

"That's correct. Everything else will prove either humiliating or temporarily inconvenient. Which is to say don't just let them hit you but also you have nothing to fear." I said casually as the five people unlocked the door and were creeping towards the stairs. "You try and handle them first. Live fire training is an excellent way to firmly cement DADA spells in ones mind." I added as I leaned against the wall behind her.

The first person appeared around the corner and Salem moved "Stupefy." she said and a bolt the thickness of a barrel erupted from her wand tip making me wince as it struck the poor bastard.

You'd have thought he was struck with Bombarda with how he was launched down the stairs into his buddies. I even blinked in surprise when I noticed him ACTUALLY die from what was supposed to be a nonlethal spell. I mean the power didn't surprise me exactly since I'd been hit with her magic myself while teaching her. But I didn't realize that it was at the level of straight up killing anyone weaker than a certain point. Salem wasn't nearly done though and rushed the remaining four letting me understand very clearly a problem I was going to need to get her to work on. She needed to learn magical restraint because even her nonlethal spells were leaving these poor bastards broken or straight up dead.-

For example she hit one of them with an Expelliarmus and he LITERALLY lost his arm, ripped right off. I ended up taking pity on the last one and putting him down with a bolt of lightning.

"I thought you said these spells were supposed to be nonlethal?" she said confused at the results.

"They are. I just didn't take into consideration how much you'd overcharge their effects. Your stunning charm caused the first ones brain to fry and your disarming charm literally took off an arm. We are going to have to work on output. Clearly just letting you go all out will be unacceptable long term. For now though lets see who our friends are." I said as I transfigured ropes around two "lucky" survivors and unmasked them before sealing their mouths.

I didn't recognize either of them but that was fine. I waved my spear "Reenervate." I spoke and the spell hit the first one jolting his traumatized mind awake.

"Who are you? who sent you?" I asked firmly and the man looked grunted and hummed like he wanted to curse or insult me. "Yeah I didn't think that would work. That's why I preemptively sealed your mouth, because only your mind won't lie. Legilimens!" I spoke firmly and the magic crept into his mind through our eye contact and I saw the scenes he was thinking of.

"Well?" Salem asked once I blinked away the magic.

"Death eaters, Purebloods that followed a certain person. Malfoy hinted to them that the fruits were for the taking if someone were to apply some pressure and these idiots fell for it hook, line and sinker. Just kill them and and feed the bodies to that mimic you wanted for some reason. No idea how you even tamed the thing." I said as the man began to scream in terror before two flashes of red light rendered the building silent again.
