Chapter 1 - The Tattoo

She was… enchanting. Everything about her; her pitch-black hair, her leather jacket, the blood red lipstick. The only thing that wasn't enchanting was how distraught she appeared, constantly glancing at her wrist between sips of whiskey. I made my move, grabbing the seat next to her, as no one else had. She, of course, ignored me and motioned the bartender for another drink.

"Rough night?" I say, motioning for a drink as well. The bartender quickly drops both our whiskeys and heads over to another customer.

"You could say that." She said, not even looking at me, still sipping on whiskey. We sat in silence for a moment and I finally got to see what she was constantly looking at on her wrist. It was a tattoo, a simple one of a heart…but, it wasn't red, it was a light pink, seemingly getting lighter by the second. She glanced at me while I was processing and shifted it out of sight. "Um… sorry, didn't mean to stare. Nice tattoo." For the first time she looked at me, and I saw how truly distraught she was; tears hanging on by a thread, so close to rolling down her face. "You wouldn't think that…not if you knew…" She stopped and chugged the rest of her drink, before practically running out the door. I swiftly got up and followed, catching her in tears outside. "What is wrong? "I say, watching her intently, as she suddenly whips her glare at me, a glare full of sadness, as well as rage. "My time is running out! What would you do if you knew your time was ending?" her glare intensifying as she asked a question, she didn't really want the answer to. I just stared back as I slowly took the pocket knife out of my back pocket. "What would you do?!! What would you do if you knew??" She started screaming, but it was cut short as I slashed the knife against her throat, immediately getting coated in her warm, thick blood, almost identical to the color of her lipstick. She collapsed and I bent over as she held her neck, trying to stop the bleeding as she struggled to breathe. I held out my arm, showing a similar heart tattoo that was slowly getting a deeper red color. "I would do what it takes to survive." I whispered, as I stood back up and watched the rest of the pink fade from her tattoo. I smiled, knowing it was satisfied and turned to go back inside, waiting for my next victim.

I close the notebook, quite satisfied with what a wrote, but would it be enough? I glance over at my heart tattoo, and watch it turn from pink into a darker red. Then I smile and put down my pen, until the next time it must be satisfied
