"The blood running through your body now came from my mate." Ezekiel continued as if he hadn't spoken.
Astrid blinked. "My blood?"
"A hybrid. Human and wolf. Just like you."
She stared at him, unable to react.
"And what did your mate do to obtain it?" His gaze shifted briefly to Alistair before returning to her. "He took her family hostage for years! So she would willingly trade her blood only to resurrect you."
Astrid's fingers slowly tightened around the blanket. "No..." A sharp pain pierced her head. She gasped. Her breathing immediately became uneven. "I..." She pressed both palms against her temples.
A scene suddenly emerged, as if she were seeing behind her eyes.
She saw Alistair lying dead. Blood pooling around him. The battle that occurred in the hall.
She blinked.
