Chapter 26 - Taking Him Back

This is so stupid. I thought again for the millionth time. Why did the boss need him alive? Wouldn't his head suffice? We could make up some sort of story. No, that'd be breaking protocol.

"Let's go," I said again.

"No," Richard replied, "I won't go. You'll have to kill me here. I know whatever would be waiting for me would be worse than death, shooting me now would be merciful."

"Killing you now is not a part of the orders," I replied, stone cold and ready to bop this bitch on the head.

Hades looked at me and nodded his head towards the door, motioning for me to follow.

Once we were just outside the room, he started his righteousness crap.

"Listen," he said, "maybe it would be better to kill him now and make up a story."

"And why would we do that?" I said. "It's not what we've been told to do. We would get in deep shit for that, maybe even decommissioned. This isn't some regular psycho who needs to be put down. It's a personal grudge the boss is holding against this guy."

"Personal grudges are not supposed to be held in regards to work," Hades said, he was acting like he was trying to get me to see the light or some shit. I wasn't falling for it.

"Just because you think he doesn't deserve what's coming to him doesn't mean we can just do whatever we want. We have orders to follow, Hades, whether you like it or not. We're taking him back."

"He's just a regular guy!" Hades said. He sounded frustrated, which he never normally is. Especially with me. I took a step back and composed myself before answering.

"We can talk about it, on our way back. With him," I pointed back to Richard, "Alive."
