Once we got Richard all tied up and ready to go, packed like a pb&j in a lunchbox, we made our way back to the front entrance of the bunker. We took one step outside the doors and we ran into the Aevis that helped us get here.
"Hello," he said. Chills instantly ran up my spine. "I didn't know if you'd be leaving us a snack so I stuck around."
Richard's eyes widened. It seemed like as much as he knew about the Association, he didn't know jack about the Aevis. We walked back towards the ladder and continued our conversation.
"We have orders to take this one back alive," I pointed out. I tried to steel my voice and make myself not seem afraid.
"Ah," he said. "Our date must have to wait then." Date? Ew. I was about to answer with a yes, but then Hades chimed in.
"We will be staying one more night and heading out in the morning, you crazy kids go have fun," he looked at me like he was swallowing his laughter. I'm going to kill him.
"Wonderful!" The Aevis said, and he clapped. Excitement shone in his eyes. "Would you like to meet me at the diner or someplace else?"
"The diner is fine." I replied, a little too short with my words. Hades looked at me quizzically. I hadn't told him that I'd seen the Aevis there just yesterday. I gave him a look that said 'I'll tell you later.' He looked away and I thought I'd seen multiple emotions flicker through his face, confusion being the main one, but a hint of jealousy? I wasnt sure, so I just let it go.
By this time, we've reached the end of the ladder. The Aevis said a quick goodbye and started digging it's way back through the dirt, with much efficiency I might add.
He's probably in a hurry to get ready for our, gulp, "date."
Gross gross gross. Like I'd ever actually date an Aevis. Disgusting.
