"Why did we come here?" She asked, trying to hide her nervousness. Perhaps if he knew how she actually felt, he would make fun of her or make it even more painful for her.
He looked down at her trembling hands and stared in confusion. "Why? Do you think I brought you here to hurt you?"
He was just teasing her but when her face paled, he was even more puzzled. She didn't actually believe that, did she?
He chuckled. "If I wanted to do anything to you, I would have done it already, don't you think?"
She pressed the tips of her forefingers together, feeling silly now that he said it aloud.
"I just thought…"
"Mh?" He probed.
"Your concubines… what really happened to them?" She asked, trying to mask the tremor in her voice.
He would be shocked by her question if he didn't already know what kind of rumors humans liked spreading about him. He took her hand and chuckled when she recoiled in panic. "I sent them back to their families. They are safe and sound."
