As I raised my head I saw a guy with brightly dyed hair and piercings. "I'm Shawn." He stretched out his arm.
"Kazuya" I replied and shook his hand.
He then sat down in front of me and as I continue to read my book, a child sat next to him.
"How do you read this?" The child whispered to Shawn.
"Their fates are intertwined." A familiar voice said.
Even if I don't look up, I could easily recognize that voice. It was Lucien.
He then walked across the table and went to my side. "Is this seat taken?" He asked.
"No." I replied.
We spent a few minutes in silence and we continued on with our own tasks but I would still secretly glance at him from time to time.
"The Catcher in The Rye" He said in a soft voice. "It's my favorite book."
"Why?" I asked out of curiosity.
"The world is filled with 'phonies' and there's always a person who's been failed to be protected from those 'phonies' eventually leading them to lose their innocence." He replied referencing to the book and also speaking from experience?
From the first time I had encountered him, I started to perceive him as someone flawless. From the way he looked, the way he spoke, and the way he uses his skills, it all felt perfect. I know that no one in the world is perfect and he's human just like me.
I can say that he is a mystery and is quite puzzling. I don't know much about him but he sparked so many thoughts inside my head.
Even though this is only our second encounter, he never fails to make me discover a side to myself as I get to know him.
Surely if someone would look at us, they would think that we're very different. Not only are we different in race and color but looking at him makes me feel like we come from two different worlds but amidst all those differences, surely there's something that's common between us right?
Putting aside all those thoughts, from the moment I met him, I've always been lost in thought and confused with how I feel but one things for sure. I want to get closer to him and know more about him. I want to protect him. I want to be his catcher in the rye.
A/N: Hi there! It might be quite confusing especially in the part where the term 'phonies' was used. It is a reference from the book Catcher in The Rye and is quite an iconic line of the main character.
