Managing to catch up to the cavalry, I watch them slaughter those who had killed my allies just moments ago.
The sound of hooves clicking on the ground, the smell of the horses... I really entered another world.
I look at my hands. I had killed. Before I realised, I had taken the life of others.
Hhooooo.
I look up the skill descriptions of my skills.
[Skills]:
['Seven Fists of the Tiger']:
[Embody the spirit and fighting style of a Tiger. Gain the Tiger's Strength and techniques: +10 [Strength], +7 [Agility] while in use.]
['Pain Resistance']:
[Able to null the pain of every incoming injury by 40%.]
['Enhanced Perception']:
[Become more perceptive to details around you. You are now able to see 4x the quality and distance of regular people.]
Embody the spirit... so that's why. I had been influenced by the spirit of a tiger, gaining the killing intent of the tiger, and its skills.
I go to my knees.
"Bleurgh"
I throw up.
I had just ripped off the head of a man, someone who had never done anything or maliciously hurt a single soul had just murdered 5 people.
I wipe my mouth and breath in. I stand up straight and walk towards the cavalry. This was inevitable. This was going to happen sooner or later.
I didn't want this to happen, I was forced.
But this is a valuable lesson. The sooner I learn to kill, the easier I will live in this world of the Nine Heavens.
I recall all the stories my parents told me when I was young. The stories of beings able to move mountains and separate the seas, beings so powerful they had gained eternal youth. Cultivators.
I recall the rank the system gave me.
[Cultivation Rank]: Mortal
This means that the legion who had attacked me were all mortals as well. I doubt that I could've survived against a cultivator even with the 'Seven Fists of the Tiger'.
'System, how do you work?' I ask, hoping for an answer.
[I am a check-in system, the rarer and more dangerous the place, the better the rewards.]
I see so that's why. I checked in a mortal battlefield, hence obtained mortal skills. I wonder what I will get once I check-in in better areas. I couldn't help but smile at the thought.
I finally approach the cavalry.
"Lei Ao, infantry of the Everlasting Sect" I shout as approach.
The cavalrymen turn their heads and look at me. I see a man dismount his horse and approach me. He was wearing a full suit of silver armour, looking exactly like one of those fantasy knights.
"Lei Ao, ehhh?" He asks me.
"Yes! I was assigned to distract the enemy with my allies, alas, I am the only survivor." I reply, acting as a dutiful soldier.
He approaches me and places his hand on my shoulder.
'What's wrong with people and them grabbing my shoulder?' I couldn't help but think.
"You and your men did a good job, you helped us distract the enemy and forced them to fall for our ambush." He says righteously. "You will be heavily rewarded for your deeds. For now, follow us as we head back to camp."
The man turns around, leaving me there unable to respond to him. What a shitty, self-centred guy.
I stay silent as I approach them. All the knights look at me then leave. No one bothering to talk to me.
I ignore their reactions and just follow along.
