Owl and Finch left after the formal introductions. After they left Gale was the first to speak, "Well before we start, I'm new to this teaching thing, and I just got my full name so don't expect much."
"Speaking of which, what's up with the long name?" Charlotte asked. "And 'just got your full name'?"
"Oh that? Well if I remember correctly when we were born, we are only given a partial name, just like mine, Gale, and when we came to age of 6, we will be taken in by someone to be trained, and this training could last from a few months to a few years," Gale explained.
"A few months to a few years?" Elijah repeated.
Gale understood and continued explaining, "It ultimately comes down to the mentor, when the time comes, the Datu will ask those who has an student under them if they're ready to be given a full name, and when you are given a full name just like mine, Gale that Swiftly Passes, only then will you be considered a full fledge Warrior."
"Ok so there's the basic ranking of things around here," Alex commented.
Gale nodded, "If there's nothing more, let's go in and I'm gonna tell you what are the rules here."
According to Gale, there are 6 total ranks Children, Apprentices, Warriors, one Envoy, one Datu, one Healer, and the number of Elders may vary.
The Envoy is the second in command and carries the will of the Datu unless the Datu says otherwise, the Envoy mostly gives out chores to Warriors and Apprentices like hunting and scouting. And that role is currently filled in by Finch.
When the current Datu dies, the Envoy will fill in the spot in one week's notice after the death is announce and confirmed by the tribe's healer.
The tribe's Healer, is well, the healer, the one that looks over the sick and wounded, and has the authority to the level of an elder, but just like the Elders they have to vote if the suggestion is alright to apply.
The apprentices has 5 huts dedicated to them, all connected to a platform in the middle, 2 for the girls and 2 for the boys, the 5th hut is just in case there's an overflow of apprentices.
As for the Warriors, when they are given a full name, they could choose to go back to their parents or go to the Warrior's hut until they get their own hut. And to obtain one is reward from the Datu after doing a major thing in battle or getting married.
A Warrior's name is affiliated to what they showed during their time as an apprentice, just like Gale, her name is given to her because she is swift, a little impatient and most importantly, she's one of the fastest to learn as it only took her a few months to master the basics and advance techniques , the only reason she only got her name because she lacks the experience to be a full fledge Warrior.
That's why her full name is Gale that Swiftly Passes, it affiliates her to her fast learning, being swift and decisive when it comes to split second decisions
For the food, it's every man for himself, unless you have a family or an apprentice under you, then you have to share the food. The Datu and the Elders have a team of hunters that specifically catches prey for them.
"And that's basically the basics of how thing work around here, and obviously if you did bad things there are punishment waiting for you if you are caught, but for the most part, that's it" Gale finished. "Also, please don't cause any trouble, any trouble connected to you will be connected to me and will impact my reputation, ok that's all for now, you can explore if you want, I'll go back to sleep."
And just like that Gale left Alex's group alone to explore for themselves, and just as they are about have a look around, Alex remembered something very important.
Alex turned around at Leslie and said said, "I forgot to ask you one thing, why did you choose to come with us? I thought you wanted to stay."
