Chapter 46 - A Little Too Fast

While Elijah was watching Narra the blacksmith do his work he fell asleep at some point around midnight when Narra is still heating up the metal.

Narra was awake the whole time, melting the metal, cooling the metal, then heating it again so on and so forth until the next morning.

When Elijah woke up, he missed most of the purifying part but he is aware of it since he saw the first part of the purifying before he fell asleep,

Elijah woke up to Narra pouring the molten metal in a cast, Elijah knew it would at least take an hour for the metal to full cooldown so he went back to the village to eat.

A warrior who was on guard duty for the night spotted Elijah while he's getting back to his hut to rest, when he saw Elijah walking towards the village, he confronted him.

"What are you doing so early down here young man?" The guard asked.

Elijah was startled by the guard's sudden appearance, "Oh hello there sir, I was just going hunting but I forgot to grab my bow and arrows!" Elijah thought on the spot because there's a chance that he won't believe him if he told the guard that he came from the smith's house.

The guard just sighed at how careless kids theses days are even forgetting their own hunting equipment, "Go on then, don't let the hunting party waiting," The guard said.

"Eh?" Elijah was confused but then he suddenly remembered that the hunting party goes out at this exact time of day.

"Hmm?" The guard saw Elijah standing there, "Hey get moving, don't let the others wait!"

"Oh right," Elijah was taken out of his stupor and he quickly climb up towards the village and the guard went back to his duties.

Elijah quickly went towards their hut and when he got inside, he saw Alex meditating legs crossed and a faint blue ball in between his palms, as well as smaller ones surrounding him.

Alex felt Elijah entered and opened his eyes, "Your back..." Alex said.

"Yeah, kinda dozed off in the forest," Elijah scratching his head.

The faint blue light between Alex's palm disappeared and so did the other small light around him, "Well just glad you're back," Alex said.

...

An awkward silence consumed the room and only the snoring Charlotte could be heard.

"Say, aren't we being used to living in this world a little too fast?" Elijah said to break the silence.

"Now that you mentioned it..." Alex trailed off and looked at Leslie who is sleeping peacefully, "We definitely are getting accustomed here a little faster than expect."

"Even the way you speak is a little different." Elijah pointed out, "You used to be this smart ass kid who says useless science facts all the time," Elijah teased.

"Useless?! Says the one who watches Japanese cartoon and plays video games all day long," Alex replied.

"How dare you call anime 'Japanese Cartoon' you uncultured brat!" Elijah retorted.

"Don't call me a brat! Remember I'm a good 100 years older than you, brat." Alex sneered.

And before Elijah could reply, "Why is it so noisy." Charlotte said unconsciously.

Elijah and Alex felt like iced water was poured all over them as they heard Charlotte's remark. In the past week when they accidentally woke her up, they received a beating. Elijah tried to run and Alex pretended to sleep but they were still both beaten up.

...

Tense silence filled the room. "Let's just go back to bed." Alex whispered.

"Yeah, agreed." Elijah whispered back. They both went to sleep since there's still at least 2 hours before the apprentices are gathered at the training platform.

Elijah and Alex we suddenly woken up and before both of them noticed, its already been 2 hours and time for the morning chores and Charlotte dragged them both out of bed.

"Wake up sleepy heads before I make you," She said dangling them in the air by their shirts.

"We're awake! We're awake!" Elijah exclaimed.

Charlotte put them both down and they made their way towards the platform. Making their way to meet Gale, they encountered Hawk who seemed to have been waiting for them.

"Hey losers, how's the baby training?" Hawk taunted.

"For the 6th time, we will not battle you Hawk," Elijah answered calmly.

"What you afraid you're face will be swiped across the floor?" Hawk continued his taunts.

"Got any better argument than that?" Alex replied with a sneer.

"Huh? What do you mean?" Hawk asked.

"Well in case you haven't notice, you always say 'afraid' or 'scared' to taunt us," Alex said calmly, "And didn't you know it's dangerous to use one's entire vocabulary in a single sentence?" Alex added with a mocking smile on his face.

*PFFT*

Giggles filled the air as even the people passing by laughed by what Alex said. And Hawk just left while muttering "I'll make you regret that."

"We'll be waiting just like what I said that a week ago," Elijah as they continued their way to meet Gale.
