Chapter 56 - You Are Staying

-Moments ago-

"We'll tell them about this info." Alex declared, "We'll need their help if we are to take these things down."

"What about the book?" Charlotte questioned.

"Of course we won't tell them. This book is too precious to be made known to everyone, anyone even. There are bound to be people who will take interest in this." Said Alex

"Plus they are still better fighters than we are." Alex continued. "They could steal it from us like taking candy from kids."

"Let's claim its from our memories. They don't seem to question when we use that as an excuse," Leslie claimed, which surprised the group. Leslie hates lying and is pretty bad at it, so when pressured she just stays silent. But even then, her blushing betrays her.

-Present-

"We need every magic wielder we could muster, including the other tribes," Alex announced.

"That's a tall order, even we will leave some magic wielder to guard the village," Storm replied.

"Well, how much time do we have before we face the Electro Fenrirs- I mean the thunderbeast?" Alex asked.

"We are to meet the other tribes at the great oaks when the sun is at its highest in the sky." Finch answered.

"So noon huh," Alex muttered. "We'll think of someway to convince them before we get there." Alex replied.

"Actually we were thinking of leaving you four here and only bring your friend Kristin because she has the crystal, since only the most senior of apprentices are going with us." Storm responded.

"What?!" The gang is unanimously shocked.

"Yes. Although you're chosen heroes, you don't have the training to be of any help." Said Finch with sympathetic look. "But your friend there is a natural at magic, and since all magic users are going to the back ranks, she'll be relatively safe." Finch added.

The group is speechless, but also slightly relieved inside. To be honest, they don't know what's giving them the courage to face literal giants that can harness the power of lightning. Though none of them are actively thinking it. Except Kristin who's panicking internally but her pride wouldn't allow that to be seen.

"You are staying here in the village until we get back," Storm said, and in an authoritative voice, "That's an order!"

And he started walking away from the group to gather the warriors who would fight. Some of the warriors who remained to guard the village escorted the gang back into their hut.

A few boring minutes later, they heard someone shout and shortly followed by light footsteps. Elijah peeked through the door and saw warriors jumping from tree to tree, some even swinging using the vines.

"Welp, there they go." Said Elijah who's visibly frustrated.

"Stop with the long face, I'm actually glad we are staying," Charlotte said.

"Now that I think about it, aren't we getting used in this world a little too fast?" Leslie commented.

"Actually, now that you said it, we've been here for like what? barely 2 week?" Charlotte chipped in.

"I believe it has to do with your 'memories'" Alex scratched his chin. "Elijah and I have actually been talking about that for some time now." Alex look at Elijah.

"Yeah, I've also noticed, I also suspect it has something to do with the memories we are given." Elijah agreed with Alex.

The others are silent at this moment as they also came into realization.

They are indeed being accustomed to this new place - er, world is the right word - a little too fast. Its been barely a week and half for crying out loud!

"So you believe it has something to do with the memories? How so?" Charlotte asked.

"Well there are some studies about 'implanted memories' where a person is hypnotized into thinking he or she have an actual memory but in truth its only 'implanted' with the power of suggestion and a couple of mind games."

...

The group is speechless once again. Because the one who spoke was Leslie.

And she felt the sudden awkwardness in the room and her face turned red from the embarrassment. "I- I read it in an article s-somewhere." Leslie said defensively as she covered her tomato-red face with her hands.

"Well then uhh... What she said," Alex took control of the room, trying to divert the attention from Leslie. "And what we have is even powerful as we actually do gain the memories. The feelings, the emotions."

"The pain, the joy, the sadness, the fear. All of it." Alex continued as he touch his head, "All of it is real, they are true events that actually happened."

Alex then switched his position and now his fingers are intertwined in front of his face, "We don't have enough information to form any solid theories at the moment, even mine and Elijah's don't hold that much. It could be something bigger than your quest to 'save the world'"

"Well I'll leave the thinking to you nerds, Imma go to Joana and see how she's doin'" Charlotte shrugged as she stood up and begins walking to the door.

"I'll go with you," Leslie then stood up following Charlotte.

"I guess its better than sitting here." Elijah said as she also followed Kristin.

Alex stared at them then shrugged and also followed Charlotte, its better than forming theories and educated guesses, maybe calling it educated is a bit of a stretch.
