Chapter 6 - The Lover Appears

Vera Warner rolled her eyes and gave a fake smile: "Mr. Morgan, you want to control everything—do you even oversee where others might slip and fall? Must be exhausting and thankless work!"

After saying that, she ignored Victor Morgan's unfriendly glare and tried to take two steps back, wanting to put some distance between herself and this arrogant man.

But the next second, Victor Morgan suddenly stood up and grabbed her arm tightly!

Vera once again stumbled, forced into this man's embrace, and instantly, that cold, fresh scent engulfed her once more.

"I heard, Miss Warner, you were quite the notorious socialite five years ago—brilliant at playing the field, chasing money over men. And pregnant out of wedlock, no clue who the father is. What, disappeared for five years and now you've got your eyes on me?"

His strong arm locked tightly around her waist as he leaned down, a low, slow voice whispering in her ear—with words as sharp as knives.

This brainless bastard!

Vera was fuming.

He dug so deep into her past, yet never figured out it was Luna Warner who set her up five years ago, ruined her reputation, destroyed her innocence, and nearly got her killed!

These two shameless dogs—one screws her over, the other mocks her—what a damn perfect match!

Her face went cold as she struggled a few times, but she might as well have been trapped in a steel cage. So she just gave Victor Morgan a mocking smirk: "Mr. Morgan, you did your homework. I suppose you also learned Luna is my stepsister?"

Victor Morgan raised an eyebrow, clearly acknowledging it.

Vera's red lips curled, fox-like eyes igniting with a blazing spark as if ready to burn everything down. "Then I'll cut the crap. The two of you—one scheming and vicious, the other arrogant and full of himself—as people say, a bitch and a dog, a match made in hell!"

Victor Morgan had never been cursed at to his face before. His face turned ashen, and his gaze grew menacing as he glared at the woman before him.

He nearly ground his teeth to dust: "Vera! Warner! I've seen plenty of women try to get close to me through their sons, but you're the first with such a sharp tongue!"

"..."

This bastard actually thinks she's into him?!

Has he got no shame?!

Vera almost laughed out of anger.

The next instant, she suddenly threw both arms around Victor Morgan's neck and yanked him down—

The distance between them vanished instantly, breaths tangling. His icy grass scent tangled with her seductive rose—mixing into an infinitely suggestive, dangerous haze.

Victor Morgan's pupils trembled, his gaze shifting involuntarily from her face, finally lingering on those soft, rosy lips.

"Whoa——"

The two kids nearby stared, hands clapped over mouths, both awestruck and excited.

"Mommy, Daddy, mind yourselves! This is a public place!" Chloe Warner piped in, both thrilled and considerate.

"..."

"..."

Snapping back to reality, Vera's ears burned red as she rushed to let go and shoved Victor Morgan away hard.

"Relax, President Morgan! I wouldn't touch Luna's man if you paid me—filthy!"

Vera lifted her chin, spat out the line, then walked over, scooped Chloe Warner into her arms, and strode off without looking back.

Her heart was still pounding. That look in Victor Morgan's eyes kept flashing before her eyes.

Sultry, wild, predatory—absolutely dripping in male pheromones.

Stop!

How could she have any wicked thoughts about Luna's man!

She must just be too deprived, that's all!

"Chloe Warner! Don't ever call anyone your dad again!"

Chloe snickered from the safety of Vera's arms: "Mom, are you embarrassed?"

Embarrassed, my ass!

Vera glared at Chloe: "If you go near Zola Morgan and his dad again, I'll throw you into the river to feed the fish!"

"That probably won't work."

Chloe waggled her head, and with a sly smile, pointed behind them: "Mom, your son's following us again."

Vera looked back and saw Zola Morgan waddling on his short legs, determinedly tagging along. As soon as he saw her looking, he gave her a goofy, toothy grin.

Vera's vision went black on the spot.

...

The CEO of Morgan Group, Victor Morgan, was always a living legend in Aethelgard.

There were only stories about him and a few rare photos—he was said to be cold, almost otherworldly, breathtakingly handsome, and, above all, he was worth billions. A flick of his wrist and the money poured out like water.

Someone so perfect rarely showed his face, yet his online popularity was off the charts—the Morgan Group's official page had over a hundred million followers just thanks to him.

But this morning, the usually quiet trending topics exploded thanks to a few sensational photographs.

"Holy shit, are my eyes broken? Doesn't Master Morgan have only one son?!"

"Shocking! Master Morgan's lover appears, and there's a daughter, too!"

"The Crown Prince gets along really well with that mother and daughter? Where's his real mom then?"

...

In the photos, the god-like, handsome man had his arms locked tight around the woman's waist, the two gazing at each other, "full of affection."

Nearby, the two kids looked like little angels, hands covering their mouths with sweet grins.

No matter how you looked, it was the perfect, happy family.

But Zola Morgan's biological mother was very high-profile online—and she looked nothing like that woman!

"Crash!"

The sound of a cup smashing against the wall was shrill as it shattered on the floor.

Luna Warner's eyes blazed red as she stared at the woman in the photo, shaking her head in disbelief.

"Impossible! Vera and that baby girl should have burned to death in that fire! How could she still be alive!"

Did the nurse really save her behind my back?

That means Vera's come back for revenge!

"Brrrring——"

Luna's eyes fell on her phone. Calming herself, she picked up and choked out, "Mom…"

"Luna, what's going on? Do you know the woman in those pictures? Is that little girl really Victor's child?"

The caller was Victor's mother, Mrs. Morgan.

Luna Warner had always worked hard to curry favor with her future mother-in-law; their relationship was excellent.

She bit her lip and lowered her voice, sounding aggrieved: "Mom, that woman…that's my sister, Vera Warner."

"What?!—" Mrs. Morgan's voice shot up, stunned. "Didn't she get pregnant without marriage and commit suicide?"

"I'm not sure, maybe…she just hid herself because she was ashamed."

"She has the nerve to be alive? After that shameless scandal, walking the streets with no shame! And now she's going after Victor! And that little girl—who knows which bastard she belongs to!"

Hearing Mrs. Morgan's cursing, a flash of satisfaction passed through Luna's eyes, though she kept sobbing: "Mom, and Victor…"

Mrs. Morgan quickly cut in to comfort her: "Don't worry, Luna. I won't let a woman like that near Victor! The only daughter-in-law for the Morgan family is you!"

"Thank you, Mom."

Hanging up, Luna leapt to her feet, gripping her phone so tightly her nails nearly broke through the case, face twisted with rage.

Vera Warner, you should have died long ago!

And that little bastard Zola Morgan, both of you should die!

...

"Mr… Mr. Morgan, what do you want us to do about this?"

The PR manager trembled as he handed the tablet to Victor Morgan.

Victor took it, frowned on sight.
