At first, Mrs. Ellison had resented Vera, blaming her for the current situation, but now she could see Vera's suffering and helplessness.
She was a victim, too. And all she wanted was to help the company grow. She didn't have a single malicious thought in her head.
After spending time together lately, she had seen Vera's true character and was utterly unwilling to trade Vera for her own freedom.
Even though Mrs. Ellison was now free to leave, Vera wasn't. So she clung to Vera, refusing to go.
"Vera, if they're trading you for me, then I'm not leaving. You should be the one to go back. The company can only keep growing with you there. Besides, I'd feel much better knowing you're looking after Landon for me in the future."
Her words warmed Vera's heart. At least she knew Mrs. Ellison didn't blame her.
"I heard you were about to bring your children back home for a family reunion. Don't worry about me. I have my own ways of getting out."
