When the teacher saw Vera's frantic expression and realized this was no lie, her body went limp. She had to lean against the wall to keep from fainting.
Moreover, she was the one who had handed Chloe over, a fact she couldn't quite wrap her head around.
"Chloe's mother, around three o'clock this afternoon, someone came to the gatehouse looking for me, saying you were here to pick up your child. When I brought Chloe out, she happily ran forward, calling out 'Mommy.' Although I didn't get a very close look, the woman's clothes, her general appearance, and even her face were incredibly similar to yours."
It was one thing for a child to be mistaken, but for someone as cautious as the teacher to also be fooled was truly baffling. Vera couldn't make sense of it.
'Could there really be someone else in the world who looks so much like me?'
