"Nervous?" Ivan shifted Penelope into his other arm, watching me tap my hand against the wall.
"I'm fine," the lie came easier than it should, and if he could see my damp palms or feel my heart hammering, he'd know how anxious I was.
"They're just Sierra and Randy, you don't have to worry."
"Which is why you're holding the baby, right?" He wouldn't let me hold her, as if he needed her support more than I did.
"It's for safety…"
I didn't understand what he meant until the doors opened and a grown woman tackled me.
"Taylor!" I couldn't even get out of the elevator.
"Sorry, I had to get to you first," she pressed the close button.
"Have you lost your mind?!" Ivan tried to get past her, but with the baby in his arms, he couldn't push her away. "I thought I had to worry about Zoe."
"No, just making sure Nefra's good," she scanned my outfit, nodding in approval. "That one looks good on you."
