Chapter 63 - Tradition

"We didn't bring a gift!" I stopped at the stairs, realizing too late that everyone else had.

"It's okay, Nefra," Ivan chuckled, taking my hand. "The pack brought things in our name."

"But…" I felt bad, not only because I came empty-handed but because I didn't know enough about Luke to know he was Greek. 

"You brought the baby, that's more than enough," Luke came around the corner, his hands heavy with a tray of delicious-smelling food. "Come on, don't worry about that. This is my pack's opportunity to show off to you and let you experience our culture."

"I still feel bad," that was something I could imagine my mom scolding me for. Latino culture had a similar tradition about not showing up to an event empty-handed.

"Yeah, some traditions die hard," Luke agreed, as if he could read my mind. "My parents would never let me live it down if I didn't follow the law of hospitality."

'He's an orphan, too. He understands.'
