"No, please, stop!" Nefra's pleas shook me out of my sleep, alert and ready for an attack. "Don't hurt him!"
I scanned the room, expecting to see an intruder, but we were alone.
"Nefra!" I whispered, trying to stop her from thrashing in the sheets, but she fought me. "Nefra, baby, it's okay!"
She couldn't hear me, grunting and throwing her arms as if she were punching someone. The whole time begging someone to stop.
What was she dreaming about?
Another nightmare. She's had so many, but nothing this violent.
"No!" her face tightened as she hissed in pain, grabbing her left side.
"Nefra!" I tried waking her again, but she jolted, grabbing her leg before her body fell limp on the bed.
"He's safe now," she whispered, opening her eyes that glowed in the darkness. "Night."
"Nefra, baby. Who's safe?" I shook her shoulders, but she was already closing her eyes again, her forehead resting on my chest.
Were we having a repeat of the dragon's territory?
