Sydney's hair was already wet, and now a drop of water trickled from the ends, a cool sensation running down her skin. It dampened her thin clothes and seeped into her heart.
When the door remained unanswered, Ryder Sharp raised a hand and knocked.
Sydney gave him the name of the scenic spot Sebastian was pointing to.
Sydney only let out a breath of relief once she was sure Ryder had left.
"You've got some nerve. He was right outside, and you still dared to talk."
"I came to get the cat."
Sebastian's reason was perfectly valid. Cradling the cat, he suddenly stepped closer to her.
They were so close she could feel his breath.
"Have you been drinking tonight?" Sebastian asked.
"A little red wine."
"I have to go to the hospital tomorrow to take care of some things, so I might be a bit late. If that crowd tries to get you to drink, don't do it unless I, Sharp, or my sister are there. They're not a good bunch."
"And you're a good person?" Sydney muttered.
