Tortobas were a unique species of giant tortoise capable of growing vegetation directly upon their shells. Unlike ordinary beasts, they served as living ecosystems, carrying entire miniature habitats wherever they wandered.
Their growth was directly tied to the amount of food they consumed.
A young Tortobas might be only a meter long.
An adult, however, could grow anywhere between ten and fifty meters over the course of its lifetime.
The truly ancient ones became legends. Entire forests grew across their backs.
Some carried thriving ecosystems complete with flowers, trees, insects, birds, and even small animals.
Their shells curved naturally upward around the edges, forming a basin-like structure capable of collecting enormous amounts of water whenever it rained.
