Many lands possessed ancient tales of beasts that somehow sensed the approach of their own deaths.
In forgotten villages, around dying hearth fires, old storytellers whispered of great creatures abandoning their territories in their final days. They would leave behind dens, nests, and hunting grounds and embark upon one last pilgrimage toward a place known only to them.
A final resting place.
A sacred grave.
A destination where countless generations before them had gone to die.
According to legend, hidden valleys and secret caverns existed somewhere beyond the reach of ordinary travelers. Within those secluded places lay mountains of bones accumulated over thousands of years. The remains of ancient beasts rested atop one another, creating grotesque monuments to mortality itself.
Many dismissed such stories as myth.
Others believed there was truth hidden beneath the embellishments.
After all, legends rarely emerged from nothing.
