Ren finally understood.
It seemed he had hurt the Princess's pride—not as royalty, but as a woman.
He had to admit, he apparently had a talent for doing that without even realizing it.
In this case, Ren had started treating Elena less like a princess and more like an ordinary person.
Actually, perhaps he had taken that a little too far.
He had gotten so comfortable around her that he had forgotten she wasn't used to being brushed aside. Elena was royalty. She had spent most of her life surrounded by people who bowed to her, listened to her, and eagerly sought her attention.
Rejection probably wasn't something she encountered very often.
During the past few days, Ren had gotten to know the Princess as someone who thrived on attention and, apparently, sulked whenever she didn't get enough of it.
