The elevator doors opened, and it was unclear whether the elevator sensed her hand or if someone inside pressed the open button.
"Thank you." Bella Meyer didn't pay much attention, she just realized there was only one person inside, a man, who looked quite aloof.
Just as she was about to press the floor button, she noticed the man had already pressed 19.
"Isaac, Isaac, your sister will be home soon, can you wait for me at the door, please? You'll see your sister in no time. I didn't leave." Bella Meyer kept repeating these words soothingly, even though she was breathless and her voice was shaky from rushing all the way there.
The elevator finally stopped on the 19th floor, and Bella Meyer dashed out while the man slowly stepped out afterward.
The building had four apartments per floor, and the man's destination happened to be in the same direction as Bella Meyer's. She stood at the door, still panting, before opening it.
