Chapter 4 - Soulstone

After I grabbed a few pieces of soulstones from the pouch, I repositioned my seating. I had to perform a meditation posture to absorb the energies these white-grade soulstones possessed.

Based on the previous host, Lucius Matheus, memories, those like me whose mana didn't reach 100 points must absorb the stored energies from white-grade soulstones to increase the capacity of our mana until it reaches one hundred points.

Once it reached 100 points, just then I could use stronger spells.

While in the meditation posture, I brought in front of my stomach the white-grade soulstones that were in my hands.

My dominant hand was on top of the less dominant hand where the soulstones were placed. I looked in awe when the soulstones in my hand shone like a lamp.

A strange warmth crept into my arms, and I could feel the energies crawling through the nerves in my body towards my solar plexus.

A strange comfort soothes me in those moments as though the energies slowly accumulated within me. It seems like I am an empty bottle being slowly filled with water.

After absorbing all the white-colored energy in it, the soulstones lost their shine and turned into ordinary stones.

My attention was distracted from the sudden arrival of the message.

[Mana: 60>>>63]

It showed me that my mana capacity increased 3 points. Now I have 63 mana in total if full. After the five points increase, I also noticed that my current available mana had increased by 3 points. Now my total available mana was 15 points out of 63.

It was so low to cast a powerful 'Fireball'. I could only manifest a weak 'Fireball' with that low mana.

I need to regenerate mana first before advancing.

Regardless, those five soulstones only increased my mana capacity by 3 points.

After absorbing the first 5 white-grade soulstones, I continued absorbing the next batch of soulstones.

[Mana: 63>>>67]

The same message appeared in my vision after absorbing the second 5 soulstones. Unbelievably, my mana capacity increased 4 points this time.

So I surmised that each soulstones contains a different amount of energy.

According to the previous host, this energy was originally known as 'Soul Energy'. But later people started calling it mana.

To this date, no one has ever called it 'Soul Energy' again.

After fixing up everything, I rest for a bit to regain the rest of my mana before proceeding on my journey.

Thankfully, no other monster came to visit me while at it.

Sitting in a meditation posture also sped up the regeneration of mana by absorbing the mana in the air.

After sitting for over an hour, I could feel my mana almost full. But I had to stop now because another guest came to visit me.

GRR!

The guest came rushing without a warning. Its long two tusks were pointing at me. Although this one was smaller than the first one, it wasn't good to underestimate it.

Just right at the time it showed up, another alert rang in my ears.

Ding!

[You have received a mission!]

I tapped it.

or ?

Of course, I accepted it.

I leaped away from the monster's trajectory right in time.

(Thump!)

The monster had crashed on the tree where I was leaning just a second ago. The tree shook and fell down. The monster on the contrary seemed unhurt by that crash.

Truly durable! I complimented it.

It was another 'Mad Boar'. But it was smaller than the first one. Again, it came and rushed at me. I could feel its anger towards me. Perhaps the first one was a close relative to it.

"Heh!"

I snorted at it.

"Although I'm full right now, Come and try!" I declared.

Without wasting time, I pointed my palm at it. And used only 'Fireball' this time.

(Boom!)

A much stronger explosion happened. Even though I didn't use 'Blazing' in that attack. The 'Mad Boar' was charred instantly.

Every spell's power depends on the amount of mana you're applying to it. Once you use a great amount of mana, the power would also be great. After discovering that 'Mad Boar' was also weak against fire, it was no longer my match.

These two notifications appeared in my vision right after killing that one.

I used 50 points of mana in that 'Fireball'. My mana dropped to 11 points out of 67.

'Dammit! I have to refuel again!' I screamed inwardly and kicked the charred corpse out of frustration.

(Thump!)

Wait, one of Lucius' memories said that a 'Mutated Beast' had soulstone in their bodies. It was located in the chest area, near the center.

As I was looking down at the charred monster, I hardened my palm, then I used a little bit of mana on it.

The next second, (Stab!) I stabbed it. Since it was charred, the skin of the 'Mad Boar' lost its hardness. If not, I bet it would be impossible for me to pierce it. My palm went through it like a knife stabbing butter. I rummaged inside to find the said soulstone.

After nearly a minute of searching, my fingers finally touched something hard, and I grabbed it. I could feel some veins sticking to it.

(Fwoosh!)

I drew it out by force.

Since it came from inside the body of the beast, it was bloody when I pulled it. The blood dripped to the ground and tainted it in dark color.

Looking at it, I noticed something different with this soulstone than the soulstones the system gave me as a reward. The color of this soulstone was blue-ish.

"So this is a blue-grade soulstone…" I muttered as I stared at it. I could feel a denser energy circulation from it.

I wiped it on my ragged shirt to get rid of the blood.
