Watching her leave always left a terrifying feeling in Ferdinand's chest. He knew she was only going into the bath, but something inside him screamed as if he had watched her turn her back towards him like this and head elsewhere that was not by his side.
Thus, instead of leaving, Ferdinand stared at the door for a minute or two, just in case Arabella forgot something and returned.
However, even after a few more minutes, Arabella didn't pop back out of the door, so Ferdinand finally followed her instructions and headed to her inner chambers.
He immediately noticed that Arabella's covers had been changed to much thicker blankets.
Arabella's maids had likely changed them even before the snow began to fall because of the increasingly cold weather.
Arabella's beddings and covers were changed quite often. If Ferdinand visited her every night, the maids changed it every day, assuming that they did the deed.
