Chapter 9 - Chapter 7: Reciprocal Exchange

Curse this still sickly body.

I missed out on trying so many delicious treats because of it:'3.

Selinus, the doctor in charge of nursing Amelia back to health, personally came to drag me back to my bed.

I tearily bid farewell to the cakes and treats, uh, I meant regretfully part with Amber and my new favorite character, sister Dawn.

Due to the slow recovery process, the busy healthcare professional was tasked with in-person care, monitoring what I eat, where I go, and how long I stay out for. So for the next few weeks, I'll have a shadow stalker follow my every step.

Every other time he came to check on Amelia or, in the current case - me, I was either sleeping or extremely drowsy. He always finishes his checkup like a breeze before I even realize that the world exists.

With the family being the most insanely reckless group of people in the world, this doctor surprisingly doesn't have much to do even within the family's confines.

People in the territory, common and noble alike, rarely get sick; their quality of life is unmatched compared to others in the noble estate, be it education, sanitation, quality of life, etc...Besides Amelia's specific poisoning case and the severity of the poison used, the family and employees are a bunch of juggernauts with bodies of titans.

After assessing my body and taking all kinds of blood samples, he finally let out a sigh, before letting out a series of wraggling noises somewhat resembling crackles of broken laughter.

"HAhHaHhahhahahHhAHhahHh"

I shivered in my seat, cold sweat dragging behind my back. The title of "Mad doctor" truly befits this man in every way, shape, and form.

'So this is the feeling of a deer in headlights.' The doctor's mad crackles refuse to still, ringing next to my ear without my willing acknowledgement.

If my previous assessment of him was just a doctor in a family that didn't show up in the original story often, then now it would be bat sh*t insane.

After he slowly ran out of breath and stamina to continue the mental deteriating crackle, he quickly straightened himself up and bolted through the door.

"..." The only thing that was left was the echoes of heavy questioning and self-doubt of my worldview.

Of course, in the end, my doubts are simply my own since the handmaidens didn't show a singular inkling of concern or resignation.

" He seems extra joyful today." The maids nodded in agreement.

That is joyful?

Are you sure about that?

It should be called manic, am I wrong?

... Whatever.

My common sense is... struggling living in this house.

Moving on from that, I forced the unsavory bitter medicine down.

The maids took away the empty medicine cups and dragged away Silenus's abandoned leather medical bags with their other hand. The heavy bag filled to the brim with tools and labeled pills sealed in jars, looking as if it would explode out of the top if it were tilted slightly too much to the left.

With no other task awaiting for the time being, the other maids step out with a bow, standing waiting outside the room until further notice.

Since it is a little bit after 2 PM right now, some of the maids will leave for rest, exchanging shifts with others, with the exception of Arainded.

Peeking out of the balcony, Rose and Dawn seem to have moved the picnic from the floor of the inner garden to the terrace a distance away.

'Hmmmmmmm...'

Finally alone.

'Hehehehe.'

Finally pulling out Amelia's journal once again, I also grabbed some empty paper from the drawer. Laying all of them on the ground with whatever color pens I can find, it is finally time to start working.

First of all,

The heroes.

13 of them, representing the 4 pillars that govern the world.

Three for Creation, Three for Space, Three for Time, and Four for Law.

At this time frame, only 4 out of the total have shown traits of early awakening.

These four are the main protagonists, the early story villain, a prince on another continent, and a merman at the bottom of the sea.

The main tragedy of the story relies on the fact that the world is being consumed by a mysterious rot, which devours the excess energy leaking out from the crack of the branches. By doing so, it tainted the fate of this world, turning the land corrupt and birth monster from the life it swallowed.

The Protagonist - Alex and his childhood friends were chased out of their village for this very reason, though they only know this years after their departure; it becomes his main driving force to find out the truth behind the bloody incident where he once lived. The novel was open and closed with his backstory, showing glimpses of reflections in the past and terrifying coincidences of the unfolding future.

If things still follow fate as they should, this current time frame is more or less two year until chaos starts to set into motion. Amelia's original footstep was rather limited, joining the Academia despite the special privilege/ exemption of the Laurel family, becoming a short-term mentor for the protagonist, then ultimately perishing for said heroes to survive.

However, the circumstances of Amelia's death are not entirely unavoidable; it was addressed by the author that this incident was Alex's most fatal oversight, resulting in her unnecessary death. Moreover, in the later seasons, when the heroine fully awakens as a hero, it was revealed that even with Amelia's capabilities back then, she could absolutely have defeated the foes who had taken her life if her constitution had healed just a bit earlier.

So!

Ignoring the other details for now, what I must do in Amelia's place right now is to make this body not sick anymore and become as strong as I can before I enroll in Gauravan Academy.

However... Why did Amelia in the story take so long to recover? And if that is the fastest the Laurel family could push her recovery, what more could I do to push that process up?

Despite the spiraling questions, most of my thoughts still jump straight back to the mouth-watering golden pie waiting for me somewhere in the back kitchen.

'Alba pie...' I mumble again and again in my head, my drool threatening to overflow down my notes beneath.

Ahhhhhhh... There are still at least 4 more hours until dinner.

Sister Dawn, I already miss you so much. It is definitely not because I want to eat her delicious treats again.

Wait...

Dawn, Dawn, Dawn,...

Damn, I can't remember anything.

I was sure there was something mentioned about her in the novel.

Something about money? Business?

I want to pull my own brain out into a scroll and reread the story details.

Hmm...

The sudden appearance of the blue status scene seems to trigger some kind of fight or flight response, and my body immediately launches toward it, almost flinging myself through its transparent visage.

What do you want to tell me, oh majestic system? A hint, a guide, some kind of ability to help me remember.

WHAT?!

82%!

What kind of dragon venom are these crazy evil people feeding a child!?

How the hell did this body even survive this? And these numbers are for after the entire healing process, both three months after Amelia fell into a coma and the three weeks I spent working this body back up!

No wonder the original Amelia took years yet couldn't fully recover from this.

Are you kidding me? How do you expect me to hurl myself over this impossible mountain?
