"DE1344? A relic? Or perhaps what the Foundation calls an item?"
Judging from this written record, this island was clearly used solely to contain the thing called 1344. From the description alone, however, it was hard to imagine what DE1344 actually was.
"Lily, what's above this floor?" Charles asked.
Barring any unexpected developments, Charles decided to retreat. The Foundation had left this place so clean there was no need to search any further.
Lily didn't answer. She looked around, a trace of confusion on her face, as if trying to remember something.
"Lily, what's above this floor?"
Faced with Charles's repeated questioning, Lily finally snapped out of it and quickly shook her head. "There's a big iron door upstairs, locked shut. A rat couldn't possibly get up there."
Charles let out a sigh. "Let's go. Call back all the rats you posted as lookouts on the other floors. We're heading back."
He presumed the so-called DE1344 was behind that door, but he wasn't curious.
