The King of the Heike Clan raised his right hand, and a servant at his side brought a tray to Charles. On it was a pair of high-topped black boots covered in eerie inscriptions.
"They will let you step on any surface you desire. I believe Captain Charles will have a use for them."
"A relic? Are there any side effects?" Charles asked.
"This isn't quite a relic. It is a divine gift from the gods."
Seeing Charles reach out and take them, a satisfied smile spread across the King's face.
"Mr. Charles, you have earned the respect of our Heike Clan. From now on, we are friends."
Charles nodded and turned to leave.
Shortly after he departed, the King stood and calmly looked up. A ferocious, terrifying monster hung upside down from the ceiling—it was the former Divine Envoy.
SNAP! Its entire body twisted in mid-air, crashing directly onto the long table and emitting a rapid, ghoulish chattering.
