WHOOSH... HISS... WHOOSH... HISS...
In the lightless sea, the only sound in Charles's ears was his own long, deep breathing. Near the surface, he had seen a few ordinary sea fish. But the deeper they went, the emptier it became, until all that surrounded him was suffocating darkness.
Charles felt blood rushing to his head. Although his oxygen supply was still sufficient, he had the strange sensation of suffocating.
WHOOSH. The water beside him shifted. A faint glow suddenly pierced the dark water—it was the light source Feierbahah had brought. Perched atop a shark, he was gesticulating wildly, sending flag signals to Charles.
"Depth: 100 meters. Danger below! Descend?"
Charles nodded to acknowledge and then gestured for them to continue. He had to see what lay below today.
Watching his stubborn captain, Feierbahah swallowed hard and slapped the back of the shark beneath him.
The red shark flicked its crescent-shaped tail fin, carrying the two men deeper.
