With all this information, Charles felt much calmer. No matter how powerful the thing was, it was just an inanimate object, and it clearly had some sort of limitation.
Whenever it replaced a door, a red light would appear above his head. As long as he paid attention to this, the entity couldn't easily lure him into opening it.
But another issue immediately confronted Charles. How could he possibly find Door 7 with Door 3 in the way?
Charles ran his hand over the door in front of him; it was marked as Door 15. Looking for it based on numerical patterns was useless. The doors here followed no discernible order.
After pacing back and forth in the dust-choked metal corridor for a while, Charles suddenly had an idea. He started prying at Door 15 with his dagger.
"Captain, this is Door 15, not Door 7," Feierbahah said from beside him.
"Of course I know!"
The door, though solid, was quickly forced open under the combined assault of Charles's blade and strength.
