Linda firmly objected. "All the test subjects have been human. A Merfolk recklessly experimenting is just committing suicide."
"They've got two arms and two legs—what's the difference? How many relics do we have here? Hurry up and let me pick. I want the strongest one."
Linda faintly sensed that the Deep before her was somehow different from his usual self. "Why do you want to do this?"
Deep looked at his webbed palm, his expression grave as he said, "On this voyage, my Abilities were no help to the Captain at all. I want to enhance my Abilities."
"Is it really necessary? We've already found the exit to the Earth's surface. Maybe we'll never have to go out to sea again."
An expression of disregard crossed Deep's face. "Of course it's necessary. I heard the Captain say there are billions of people on the Earth's surface. What if we have to fight for territory when we get up there, just like in the Abyss-Sea? What if the surface people come down and try to take our islands?"
