Chapter 18 - Chapter 18: Giving Him More Than Enough Love

"I suspect someone tampered with your gown. They did it on purpose to keep you from attending the charity gala tonight."

"Who could it be?" Melody Monroe had no idea.

"Exactly! So many people were coming and going. Who knows who did it!" Talia Mercer exclaimed, leaning against the edge of a planter in frustration.

Melody Monroe raised a hand, touching the wound on her head.

'It's not just the gown. This injury on my head… someone did this on purpose, too!'

'The original author is trying to kill me!'

'The book only said that Melody Monroe lost the role because she was injured and that the injury was intentional.'

'But this subplot was never explained!'

'You can't just gloss over it because it's a side story!'

'The plot was never resolved before the author rushed to the ending. When I was reading the book, I never paid attention to this part. Melody wasn't a main character, so who cared if it wasn't explained?'

'But now… what a cruel twist of fate!'

'I've become Melody Monroe from the book, and now I'm the one it's happening to!'

After another ten minutes, Talia Mercer couldn't help but urge, "Call Rose again. If we keep waiting like this, the gala will be over."

"There's no point. Calling her ten more times won't change anything."

"Huh?" Talia Mercer looked confused. "Why not? Rose is very well-connected! Maybe if she just makes a call, they'll let us in."

Rose Shaw had her own plan for everything she did, and she was a very punctual person.

Melody had already made the call, so Rose Shaw must have gotten the message. Now, she just needed to wait for Rose to call back; there was no need to pester her.

"So we just stand here and wait?" Seeing Melody Monroe remain silent, Talia Mercer grew more anxious.

"Yes, let's wait." Melody Monroe raised her head to the night sky. "Look, the moon is so beautiful tonight."

Talia Mercer gave a bitter smile. "And you're still in the mood to look at the moon."

"Yes, and I'm a little worried about Ian. That little guy is such a stickler for his routine; he must be getting ready for bed right now." Melody Monroe held her phone, unable to resist dialing Ian Monroe's number.

Ian Monroe was already in his bed, which was tidied up perfectly.

The phone rang, and he immediately scrambled up to answer it. His watch phone displayed the caller as "Mommy," and his serious, tense little face instantly broke into a smile filled with anticipation.

"Mommy!"

"Sweetheart!"

"Mommy, where are you? Are you coming home tonight?"

"Mommy's still busy, so I can't come home tonight, but I'll be back to see you tomorrow. Are you about to go to sleep?"

"Mhm, I'm already in bed."

"Good boy."

"Mommy, is everything okay?"

"Nothing's wrong. Mommy just missed you. I missed you so, so much," Melody Monroe said in a sweet, playful voice.

Ian Monroe's little face instantly turned red. In his memories, his mother wasn't like this. But he was just a child, and a very young one at that; he couldn't remember much. Even if he did remember some things, he would only recall the good things about his mom.

"Sweetheart, do you miss me?"

"Yes."

"Give me a kiss."

There was no response from the other end. Melody Monroe knew the little guy must be feeling shy, so she made a "Mwah!" sound into the phone.

"Alright, go to sleep now."

"Goodnight, Mommy."

"Goodnight, sweetheart." Melody Monroe hung up the phone, her face still brimming with a happy smile.

'I'm going to shower my little boss with all my love, make him feel completely and utterly cherished, so that we can live a happy and blissful life together, just the two of us.'

Ian Monroe held his watch phone and gently pressed it to his lips for a kiss.

He was reluctant to let go of the watch, holding it tightly in his small hand.

When the nanny came to check on him, he was already asleep.
