Today was the day I was officially having a little brother. Mom and dad had been to his house during the week and they've also gone to do the legal stuffs as well. I didn't get the chance to go with them because of school but mom always brought me news . She told me Jared was fine and his dad kept his promise of treating him well. Dad was going away on his business trip so it was actually mom and I who were going to bring him home. I also spent the week preparing his room with the help of Madison. Alice went on Tuesday so she really wasn't of any help but she was so eager to see Jared on face time.
"Why are you all smiles today?" Zach , one guy who sat behind me in class asked as we had lunch.
"I'm I always wearing a gloomy face?" I asked biting into my burger.
"No but I can see you are excited today … what's the catch?" He asked.
"Is it that noticeable " I laughed.
"Yeah… are you going on a date?"
"Maybe!" I teased
"Can you stop teasing and tell me already, my ears are itching "
"Why do you wanna know why she's happy, best friend snatcher!" Madison interrupted
"Don't mind her Zach !" I smiled.
"You don't have to tell me Amara I know how goofy she can be sometimes
"Well my brother is actually coming home today and I'm so happy to see him!" I exclaimed holding his hands tightly.
"Really but I thought you were the only child "
"I'm not honey I actually have a little brother " I replied.
"And what's so exciting about that ?" Stella and her gang appeared from nowhere.
"Excuse me but were you eavesdropping on my conversation?"
"I don't have time for that Amara maybe you should learn to talk without being too loud " she replied and walked away.
"What does that girl want from me?" I asked sarcastically
"She can't accept the fact that there is someone prettier than her " Zach said.
"Thanks for the compliment Zach" I smiled and it was soon lunch over.
We went for cheer leaders practice after lunch since it was Friday and there were no classes after lunch. I didn't wanna join the cheer squad but Madi convinced me it was the only group in school that had the chance to visit some universities during their soccer tournaments. I wondered why we had to cheer when it isn't for our own soccer team but it was like a festival or something the school does every year when colleges admit new students. Stella and her squad were on the cheer squad and she was actually the captain. She tried to get on my nerves during practice but I ignored her as much as possible since I didn't want to ruin my mood for the day. It was closing and I was highly excited. Mom came to pick me up right after school and we both headed to Jared's place. I stopped at the supermarket to get him his favorite ice cream and ended up running into someone I didn't expect to meet , Ivan. He was with his sister Daniella and his haircut really suited him.
"Amara!" He said excitedly to my surprise
"Daniella!" I ignored him and high five her.
"It's been a while Amara , did you forget about me ?" She asked in her cute voice
"Of course not darling " I replied and smiled at her . Ivan waited patiently till I was done talking to his sister before he asked her to excused us.
"What are you doing here?" He asked
"Can't I be anywhere I want?" I replied rudely
"Can you stop being rude for once , I want us to get along " he said to my surprise.
"I don't want to " I snapped
"Why?"
"Because I don't want to and you are annoying!" I replied
"I can try not to be annoying so what do you say " he replied
"Why are you acting strange today ? Are you sick?" I said and felt his forehead with the back of my palm. I was taking my hands back but he held it and pulled me closer, my heart skipping a beat.
"Do I look sick?" He asked, his hands wrapped around my waist. This was the closest I've ever been with a guy after I broke up with Mike and my heart was actually racing. I tried effortlessly to step back but he pulled me more closer.
"What are you doing Ivan?" I stuttered.
"I want you to look at me well" he replied and I found myself staring deeply at his lips.
"Why?" I licked my lips
"Because this is how I'm going to be around you from now onwards " he said and landed his lips on mine. I was so shocked and my mind couldn't process what was going on. I realized I wasn't dreaming when the ice cream fell on my leg. I pushed him away and slapped him. He wasn't expecting that and seemed surprised.
"Who said you can kiss me Ivan!" I exclaimed angrily as he felt his cheek in his palm
"My heart" he replied
"Stop messing with me Ivan and don't think you can play me just as you do with other girls !" I replied and walked away.
My mood was totally ruined and my face started to heat up . I didn't want mom to notice how worried I was so I tried my best not to think about what had happened but I just couldn't.
"Are you okay?" Mom asked
"Yeah " I replied , snapping out from my thoughts.
"Are you sure Amara cause this is the third time I'm calling you and you seem lost"
"I'm really sorry mom "
"What's bothering you , you've been like this since you went to get the ice cream " she said.
"I met Ivan " I said and her face lightened up.
"And ?"
"Well he did something I'm not so happy about " I replied and she frowned. I wondered if it was the fact that Ivan did something or the fact that I didn't like what he did .
"What did that gentleman do " she replied and I was surprised with her choice of words.
"I think I'm not going to tell you anymore!" I said
"Why?" She chuckled
"Cause you are using such adjectives for him when I clearly told you he did something I didn't like!"
"Amara dear … I know Ivan is a sweet boy , you just like to not like him"
"Mom!!" I exclaimed.
"Oh please cut the crap and i can't wait to meet your little brother " she smiled and pulled out in front of Jared's house. My mood lightened again immediately we got there and only God knows how nervous I was to see him. Mom got out of the car carrying the brown envelope along with her. It was the last amount to finalize everything. I stood in front of the car and watched as mom talked with Jared's father . Mom called me to come over and I was really nervous. His dad smiled at me and called him. The moment I saw my little brother, tears filled my eyes. He was looking handsome than the last time I saw him.
"Jared!" I said, knelt down and hugged him tightly.
"I thought you wouldn't come!" He said in his cute voice
"Of course I would… I've missed you so much and I'm sorry for taking long to come " I replied
"Did you bring me ice cream!" He smiled
"I brought a lot of them… they are in the car" I said getting up .
"Can we go now Jared? " mom said and he nodded. He waved his father who didn't seem bothered. It was as if his long awaited dream was finally a reality. I held Jared's hands as we walked towards the car.
"Are you hungry sweetheart? Mom asked as she drove
"No mommy " he replied and mom smiled.
"It's the first time he is calling me mommy… thanks Jared!" Mom said and I smiled
