[Heath's POV]
The tall, elderly man was surely intimidating, not only his voice but his build as well, an elderly man with a sweet smile.
"Dad," I hear Fiona chime. I am completely confused by this. Fiona's parents had passed on, so why is she calling that man dad?
She quickly runs to hug the couple, who embrace her back warmly, "I miss you so much. How have you been?"
"Huh…... miss us? Don't lie, child, you could have visited if you missed us," the elderly man said, earning a smack on his head from his wife.
"Robert, don't talk to the child like that. In your old age, you still act childish," the lady says, "Don't mind him, child, you know how your father is."
"I understand, Mom, this grinch doesn't want to let go of his ways," she teases. This confuses me even further. Did she lie about her parents dying?
"And who is this fine young man?" the lady says, moving closer to me and Lewis.
"Oh…. Um…. Mom, this is my boyfriend, Heath," Fiona says shyly.
"Heath, these are Sleby's parents...."
"Excuse me, young lady, we are your parents as well," the lady says jokingly.
"Of course, Mom, you will always be my parents." I finally understand. She did say that Sleby's parents raised her, which is why she is so comfortable calling them mom and dad.
"It is a pleasure to meet you," I say, putting Lewis back in his crib. I reach out my hand to shake their hand.
The lady smiles before hugging me, "Come on, you are our princess boyfriend, no need to be so formal, Caroline Green, pleasure to meet you."
Caroline's hug is surely warm and welcoming; she feels like a mother figure I never had. She pulls away from the hug happily. I move to shake her husband's hand, but he just looks at my hand, displeased.
"Heath Duncan, famous Playboy," he says in a commanding tone, "is this one of your Playboy games?"
"Robert, you told me you would behave," Caroline scolds. He looks at me, wearing a menacing glare. I almost lost balance on my own feet.
"I am serious about Fiona, sir. I would never hurt her," I reassured him, but he was clearly not convinced.
"I will be the judge of that, anyway. Where is Selby? I want to meet that other player she has been singing praises about," he says. He moves past me to Lewis's crib.
"Oh… is this little Clover and Gian's son?" A completely different man, him smiling and playing peekaboo with Lewis a few seconds before almost making a grown man cry, scares me even more.
The way this man softens up when he sees Clover and Selby is even scarier: "Oh my sweet child, we apologize for not being here for your difficult time," he tells Clover while hugging her tightly.
Selby looks thrilled to see her parents, but she exchanges worrying glances with Fiona. "Lucas and Gian joined right after, with Gian getting a hug from the same man who refused to shake my hand.
"Son…. How have you been?" Robert chimes happily, "I hope you have been supporting my little girl well, you know, Clover can be a crybaby at times."
"You know I will always take care of all three of your daughters, sir," Gian says, earning an eyeroll from Robert.
"And yet they end up with such scum for boyfriends."
A cutthroat, that's what this man was; he didn't care what everyone perceived of him, but would make sure you knew what he thought of you. And somehow it felt like a wall I had to go over to get Fiona.
"Dad, what character do you have to judge people you have just met like that?" Selby scolded.
"I know enough about these young men to judge them."
"No, you don't, the media always exaggerates things," Selby rolls her eyes before introducing Lucas as her boyfriend, like this man didn't just call him scum a few seconds ago.
"It is a pleasure to meet you, sir."
He looks at Lucas's extended hand like it was a dirty diaper, and he just nods to acknowledge him.
"Dad, stop being rude," Fiona, Selby, and Clover say in unison, and he chuckles nervously.
"Sorry, I just really don't want my girls to get hurt," he says, but doesn't acknowledge Lucas; instead, he takes Fion, Clover, and Selby with him.
"Come on, tell me what I have missed. I missed my little girls so much."
"Dad, you haven't missed much. We write to you every month. You are such a drama queen."
They leave us in Lewis's nursery with Caroline holding Lewis and rocking her to sleep.
"Um…. So…."
"Don't worry, that is just typically Robert Green; he will come around," Gian reassures us.
"How long did it take for him to accept you?" Lucas asks.
"Um… well…. He never really disapproved of me."
I want to punch this man; how does he know that he will come around when he has never even been in our shoes?
"Hey…... no need to glare at me, Duncan, I was not the one who forced the two of you to live a promiscuous life."
The party went well, with all the grandparents around, Lewis somehow looking extra happy, Fiona couldn't stop giggling with Robert around, and even with him hating me and Lucas, I still am grateful for his presence, as he makes Fiona happy.
Well, that was me yesterday, me this morning. I absolutely hate Robert Green. "Come on, young man, we have a long day ahead."
"Um…. Sir… I have a meeting very soon; can we do this a little later?"
"Unfortunately, you cannot cancel everything. We have a very important thing to do. I will wait for you downstairs."
I feel my head ring from the sheer stubbornness of this man; then again, I need this man's approval if I am asking for Fiona's hand in marriage in the future. So yeah, guess I am giving in to this man's whims.
But getting downstairs, it seemed it was not only I who was being dragged, but Lucas who was sitting right across from him, looking nervous.
Whose car are we taking? He asks nonchalantly, eating ice cream. Yes, the man who terrifies me is just casually munching on some strawberry ice cream.
"Um… Heath's car would be fine."
"Alright," he casually stands up, and Lucas picks up his bag like a servant. He would look rather cute if Fiona hadn't told me he was a military veteran. To be specific, his rank is quite a mystery, but it was clear he was a higher-ranked officer.
Every time he directs me when I drive, I feel very scared, especially when he starts talking about his time in the military.
But pulling up to a rundown place with many men tattooed up with guns in their hands terrifies me even more. "Um…... sir, is this the place?"
"Yes, come on, we haven't had all day," he jumps out of the car as soon as I park, and walks to one of the men who greets him happily.
"Is he trying to kill us?" Lucas asks, and before I can answer, he shoots back with, "Who knows? Have you done anything that requires me to kill you?"
I feel very dizzy. What does this man have in store for us? Fiona reassured me he would never hurt me.
But it seems that wasn't true, because as I was standing, he pulled out a long gun from the bag Lucas had been carrying around and aimed it at me, before pulling the trigger.
