[Fiona's POV]
I wake up late in the afternoon, with the day to myself. I have woken up once to see Heath go to work, go back to sleep, and wake up again in the afternoon.
It felt a bit good not to stress about work for the first two weeks, but it feels so depressing to stay home and do nothing.
I hear a soft knock on the door, which is followed by another loud and aggressive knock. I can deduce who is at the door already because I hear Mrs. Green say.
"Selby, don't knock like that, poor Fiona must be resting," she scolds in that soft and loving tone.
"Mom, welcome," with a warm hug, we greet each other.
"Wait till I tell you what dad did," Selby says angrily.
"What did he do?" I asked, and I ushered them in as I caught up with what had been happening while I was asleep.
"Come on, stop exaggerating, your father would never do such," said Mrs. Green, "He is probably getting to know them."
"He kidnapped their mom. How would you explain him buying a gun first thing in the morning?"
"I am sure they are safe," Selby glares at me.
"It is six o'clock already, and they have been gone all day. Fee, what if they are already dead?"
I finally check the time, and it says 18:25. By this time, Heath was already at home, helping me cook and telling me about his day. I widened my eyes in shock, and at the same time, Mrs. Green rolled her eyes.
"My husband is no monster, those boys are safe," she says, "Come on, let us cook, Selby, go get the stuff you left in the car, Fiona, show me the kitchen."
"But mum, what if..."
"Enough already, your father is not crazy, and stop making him something he is not," she says, "Come chop-chop, food has to be ready."
Selby and I follow the instructions in horror. What if something really did happen to them?
But as the clock keeps moving and there is no one coming through that door, Mom's calmness scares me as well.
See, as overprotective as Mr. Green was, Mother was three times worse. If she didn't approve of a person we were dating, she would always let her husband take all the extreme measures to drive them away.
"Selby, one of us needs to sneak out and find Dad," I told Selby as I pulled her away. "What if Mom sent Dad to go take them out?"
Selby first rolls her eyes, but when the realization hits her, she is horrified, "But mom was so sweet to Lucas when they met, there was no indication that she disapproved."
"Rather safe than sorry, Sel, I am not okay with mom's current action."
"But…..."
Our whispering is halted by a knock on the door, and Mom's soft voice follows after, "Fiona, please get the door. Selby," Where are the carrots I sent you to get?"
"Coming, Mom," she calls out as she moves to the other kitchen, and I move to the door.
"Clover? What are you doing here?"
"Mom invited us, she said we were having a feast," she says as I usher her, Gian, and Lewis in.
So, is this the plan: to kill Heath and Lucas, then celebrate in Heath's house after? Not on my watch, this will not be happening.
Mrs. Green welcomed the family before sending Gian to set the table. I followed him to inquire if he knew what was happening there.
"So, where are Heath and Lucas?"
"Aren't they out with dad?" he asks so nonchalantly.
"Doing what exactly!?"
I hear the door open, and groans and Dad's laughter follow after. Both Selby and I were at the front door in no time to see Lucas and Heath covered in paint.
Their high-fashion suits looked tattered and dirty; you would think they had survived a world apocalypse.
"Heat, are you okay?"
"These girlies are okay, we were just having some fun at the Paint War reserve Gorge owns," he says, "They even thought I wanted them dead."
His infectious laugh almost makes me forget that this man didn't just terrorize these two mercilessly.
Heath looked like he was about to die, and Lucas looked dead. What type of paint war did they play?
"Something smells nice, did my sweet wife cook?" he says, walking to the kitchen, "You better get yourselves cleaned, no one is sitting at the dinner table like that."
I can hear Heath sigh loudly as he is not out of sight, "Your father is evil," Lucas says.
"I am going to bathe," Heath just says lazily. He moves to kiss me before walking to the bathroom, "You better be going to the bath as well."
It is not long before everyone is surrounding the table, and somehow, the stunt Mr. Green pulled is all forgotten for a while.
"How I wish you girls did learn some good cooking from your mother," Robert says, "Too bad, you boys will be eating takeaways forever."
It was filled with laughter, and for some reason, everyone just brushed off Robert: 'You are not good enough for my daughters. ' Green just approved of both Lucas and Heath.
But Lucas and Heath are definitely aware of it because they start blushing profusely with his statement.
"I am sure we will survive, Mr. Green," Lucas hums happily, "I can always hire a chef."
"Hmph, don't spoil them too much, look how they turned out because we spoiled them too much," he scolded.
"Please take care of my girls," said Mrs. Green with a serious tone, "They can be too much, a little stubborn."
"A little?" Mr. Green interjected, and Mrs. Green just rolled her eyes at him.
"Robert and I will not be there forever, and we would want to see them have a family and be happy before we leave the earth, and if you are willing to give them that, I would be so happy."
"You mean like marriage?" Heath asked.
"Not so quick, young man, you just met. How are you already thinking about marriage?" Mr. Green says, "She meant like yes, in like two years or three you can marry, but just put your energy into making them happy."
I couldn't help but choke, remembering how Lucas wanted to marry Selby just a few days ago.
"But Mr. Green shouldn't get married; soon better than waiting?" Heath says again, challenging someone he shouldn't.
"I don't want my girls to be divorced, so no, they wouldn't."
Heath looks straight at him, not wavering, and smirks before saying, "But sir, if you trust your daughter enough, you will realize the picked good men, and regardless of when we get married, we will be happy forever."
"Hmph... you are a stubborn one, aren't you?" he says, a bit annoyed. "See how you survive this year in the relationship, then if you do come ask for her hand in marriage."
"Can I also do that?" Lucas says, shaking the table. Selby looks at him with a full red face.
"Lucas!?" she scolds. This display amuses Mr. Green, who laughs hysterically.
"Maybe Duncan has a point. I should trust you girls a little this time," he says, "Okay, yes, I approve of the relationship, and I will give my blessing to marry after you have survived this year together."
Heath turns to look at me with a victorious smile. I wonder what nonsense he is thinking of now, like I already told him, we are not getting married this soon.
