Keiko opens her eyes and feels a sensation of movement beneath her. “Are we in a car? Where are we going?” She rubs her eyes and gets back to her senses as she looks at Nic. “Nic, what-?”
“Keiko, there’s no time to explain. I’m sorry I’ve had to be forceful this way, but I promise you I’m doing all of this out of concern for your own safety. You can’t stay in this city anymore.”
“What are you saying?" She tries to remove her seatbelt, but it won’t budge. “Let me out Nic!”
Nic continues driving. “I won’t Keiko. This city is doomed to fall soon; I won’t let you fall with it. They are dealing with vampire madness, so let the vampires handle it. We’re only human.”
“You’re telling me disaster will befall the city, and you think I should run away? You’re telling me to leave Nadia and even my Shino behind? Do you hear yourself? You hate Nadia so much?”
“My feelings about them are irrelevant. You are and have always been my only priority Keiko.”
