“I’m sorry, but there’s nothing more we can do. He’s gone. It seems he was poisoned, but we’ll need to wait on the coroner’s report after an autopsy is performed. We’ll contact his wife now.”
“Right, thank you.” Nadia replies monotonously. The paramedic nods apologetically and steps inside the ambulance where her father’s body lies in a black bag on a stretcher. They close up and then drive off, Nadia just watching it go in silence. She just stares on and on, feeling numb.
“Nadia?” Keiko has been standing beside her all the while; from the moment the paramedics arrived to try and revive Albert. “Nadia, what are you thinking? Talk to me baby.” She pleads.
Nadia slowly turns to look at her, her eyes are sunken in, and she looks miserable. “I don’t know what to say Keiko. What can I say? I feel sad. I feel guilty. I feel depressed. I feel I want to die. Overall though, I just feel numb. I feel like this isn’t real. Yet it feels more real than anything.”
