I stood there, paralyzed with fear and uncertainty. The silence that followed was deafening, broken only by the frantic pounding of my own heart. I knew I should go to my room, try to get some sleep. But I couldn't bring myself to move.
What had just happened? Had I just witnessed the complete and utter breakdown of my family? Was there any hope of reconciliation, or were we destined to remain trapped in this cycle of resentment and bitterness?
Slowly, hesitantly, I reached out and knocked on Lilith's door.
"Lilith?" I whispered, my voice barely audible. "Are you okay?"
There was no response. And I heard a weird noises.
I knocked again, louder this time. "Lilith, please. Let me in."
Still nothing.
