Dafa steered the conversation away from himself, back to me. It was a small gesture, but it spoke volumes about his character, his selflessness.
"So, what's going on with your day?" he asked, his voice warm and inviting.
"Well," I began, leaning back against the window, "I went to the hospital. It was my first day of probation."
"And how did that go?" he asked, a note of concern in his voice.
"It was… intense," I admitted. "A lot of pressure, a lot to learn. But I think I handled it okay. I managed to help a few people, which always makes it worthwhile."
"I knew you would," he said, his voice filled with pride. "You're a natural, Alayna. You were born to be a doctor."
I smiled, feeling a warmth spread through me at his words. "Thanks, Dafa. That means a lot."
"Then," I continued, "I went to the seamstress today with my mother. We're still working on the wedding dress."
"How's that coming along?" he asked, his voice laced with anticipation.
