Dafa's POV
A faint, melodic sound tickled at the edge of my consciousness, pulling me from the depths of a much-needed sleep. For a moment, I was disoriented, unsure of where I was or what was happening. Then, reality crashed back in, and I remembered everything: the unrest, the pressure, the bone-deep weariness… and Alayna.
My eyes snapped open, and I fumbled for my phone, the faint sound still emanating from the speaker. I glanced at the screen, and my stomach dropped. The call was still connected.
I talked to her until I fell asleep.
The realization hit me like a bucket of ice water. I, Dafa, the stoic, level-headed soldier, had poured my heart out to Alayna and then drifted off to sleep while she was still on the line. The embarrassment was immediate and intense. What must she think of me?
