I woke to sunlight streaming through the small round window.
The attic was warm. Golden. The dust motes floated lazily in the morning light, dancing like tiny stars. I lay still for a moment, staring at the sloped ceiling, letting the events of last night wash over me.
Dafa's words. His voice. His confession.
"I see the real you."
I reached for my phone. No new messages. But I knew he was probably already awake, already training, already carrying the weight of his duty.
I set down the phone and stretched. The morning light felt different today. Lighter. Like the world had shifted slightly on its axis and everything was in sharper focus.
I got out of bed and went to the bathroom.
The water was cold against my face. I splashed it several times, letting the chill wake me up fully. I brushed my teeth, ran a comb through my tangled hair, and stared at myself in the mirror.
