She shook her head quickly. "Nothing. It's nothing."
"It's not nothing." I walked toward her. "You look like someone kicked your dog."
She laughed bitterly, but there was no humor in it. "I don't have a dog."
"Then what is it?"
She was quiet for a long moment. I could see her fighting with herself. Wrestling with something she didn't want to say. Then she looked up at me, and I saw the tears welling in her eyes.
"It's Lev," she said quietly.
My stomach tightened at his name. The man who had betrayed me. The man who had been with Lilith behind my back. The man who had shattered my trust.
"What about him?"
Lilith hugged herself tighter. Her voice was shaking. "He's been ignoring me. For days now. He won't answer my calls. He won't meet me. And when I saw him yesterday..." She paused, swallowing hard. "He looked at me like I was disgusting. Like he couldn't stand to be near me. Like I was something he had scraped off his shoe."
