"There are always alternatives, little Amelia."
I smiled. "Then what are you doing, playing the role of villain?"
She huffed. "As I said, I want to learn the enemy's motive and take care of what the we failed to do. Our goal wasn't simply to replace the queen, but to prevent this cycle of tyranny from repeating."
My expression softened. I could understand her wish to prevent Kuroriku from falling to another tyrant. But still... "And killing me is the way to do it? How is that different from what you wanted to avoid? Won't the Kingdom fall into war again without an heir?"
"I don't care for the Kingdom itself, merely its people. If I had lived, maybe I would have gotten rid of the entire system of nobility. Perhaps we would have been a republic."
