I climbed the roof of the castle and stared at the starry night sky. Tonight, there seemed to be less stars. Or perhaps the stars had lost some of their shine due to the darkness in the sky.
A warm hand landed on my shoulder. I turned to face Amelia.
"You aren't getting cold up here?" she asked, her purple eyes gleaming under the moonlight.
I shook my head. "The chill is nice. I just needed a moment alone to process everything."
"I get it. It was a long day." Amelia moved beside me, and we stood shoulder to shoulder, our gazes directed at the dark fissure. The air was crisp and cold.
I sighed. "I want to see our family."
She nodded. "As do I. I fear this might be our last chance to do so."
My chest felt tight. She was right. We would go to the Abyss and fight a god-like creature. But would we survive? Or would we be forever lost?
"Do you ever regret being born into the royal family? That all this responsibility follows you?"
