Chapter 131 - BETH IS MISSING

A whisper lost to walls of pain,

Regret falls soft as midnight rain.

A father knocks with trembling hands,

Regret like waves, the guilt expands.

Love unspoken, words too late,

A daughter gone beyond the gate.

Silence answers where she'd weep,

And shadows keep the secrets they keep.

"Beth?" Thomas called softly as he knocked on the bedroom door. The sound of his knuckles against the wood seemed too loud in the quiet house; each rap echoed like a question he had no right to ask.

"Beth, please open the door. I want to talk to you," he said, but the room remained mute. The curtains were drawn; the air beyond the door felt thick and distant.

He leaned his forehead to the wood and closed his eyes. "I know you're angry right now," he whispered, "but we can talk things out. Say whatever you need to say, ask me anything—just don't hurt yourself."
