"Yes, accept me," Bernard said softly, pulling out a chair for her. "But first, let's sit."
Ariel hesitated, her fingers twisting the hem of her dress nervously. "I… I can't accept this, Bernard. This is too much," she whispered, her heart thundering in her chest.
"How is this too much?" he asked gently, his gaze unwavering. "You deserve more than this. Please… just let's sit first."
Her chest tightened. She hesitated, unsure if she could trust herself to stay. After a long pause, she slowly lowered herself into the chair, eyes fixed on the table between them.
"I know I won't have the chance to take you on a real date because of him," Bernard continued, voice low but steady. "So I had this place decorated for us… knowing his men wouldn't find us here."
