Effort isn't something to be ashamed of—at least, that's how Mei Mengzhen sees it.
As for how everyone else feels about someone else's hard work, Mei Mengzhen can't control that, and obviously she can't control what people say either.
"Tch, you talk all about working hard, but do you even have money to study?"
Everyone knows Mei Mengzhen's parents passed away—even though they left her a decent amount of money, her family was never super wealthy. How much could they really leave her? There's always more days than money, right? Could she even afford a year of university now? Not to mention she still has a little brother in kindergarten.
Mei Mengzhen actually does have money, so she speaks openly, "That's what you don't get—the better the school, the cheaper the tuition, so naturally expenses go down too. Right now, I might have nothing, but as long as I earn what I work for, I'll have everything in the future."
