"You're not asleep yet?" I asked her, my voice low so it wouldn't disturb the quiet of the entire house.
"Nope," she answered almost immediately. "I don't think I can sleep while my boyfriend is here, sleeping under the same roof as me." She paused, then smiled faintly. "That's not really something I can just ignore, right? I mean, I don't think I'm wired that way."
Before I could respond, she closed the distance between us. Her steps were soft and unhurried, like she was savoring every second. When she reached me, she pressed her body against mine, close enough that there was no space left to misunderstand her intention.
She was soft where she should be soft, and she was warm and comforting, but there was also a firmness to her body that grounded me. It was a contrast that made my chest tighten for a moment.
